The almost eerie stillness of the Mannequin Challenge has stood in stark contrast to the frenetic fads that preceded it (see: Ice Bucket Challenge, Harlem Shake, and Running Man Challenge), but its popularity has followed a similar arc.

To date, the best Mannequin Challenge by a baseball team belongs to the UC Riverside Highlanders. We’ll have to see if the fad lingers long enough to entice an MLB team to give it a go during spring training.

HONORABLE MENTION

Runner-up in the baseball category is an video offering by a gamer who made creative use of MLB The Show 16: Diamond Dynasty for a surreal sweep around the ballpark.

Aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers visit to the White House, the best basketball-themed Mannequin Challenge belongs to the Lamar Cardinals of the Southland conference. It seems that guard Torey Noel is the lone player to take game day seriously.

HONORABLE MENTION

Runner up belongs to the Lynchburg Hornets — be sure check out the post-dunk rim hanger and the player frozen in mid dribble.

The Alabama Crimson Tide take top honors for Mannequin Challenge by a football team, in part due to cleverly showing off their palatial locker room to prospective recruits.

HONORABLE MENTION

The New York Giants got a point deducted as one of the team’s staff members both blinks and looks at the camera, single-handily destroying an otherwise fine effort.

The Syracuse Orange hockey team is the first women’s team to make our Mannequin Challenge list and they do so with imaginative panache.

HONORABLE MENTION

Swiss team HC La Chaux-de-Fonds earns honorable mention on the strength of their staged Zamboni accident.

Portugal’s national soccer team nabs a top spot by virtue of having the reigning Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo standing center frame in his skivvies with abs flexed.

HONORABLE MENTION

England’s Jamie Vardy initiated the Mannequin Challenge following a spectacular header that temporarily put The Three Lions up 2-0 on Spain.

The East Coast Dyes aren’t a lacrosse team per se, but rather a lacrosse-equipment company with a “team” of employees. They still get top marks for a completely flinch-free tour of their facilities in Lutherville, Maryland.

HONORABLE MENTION

The Syracuse women have twice made the NCAA title game, in 2012 and 2014, but have yet to take home the trophy. In the mannequin challenge they also take the runner-up position.
