Pee Wee Reese headlines Los Angeles Dodgers all-time roster by Wins Above Replacement

While Jackie Robinson may be the most famous player to ever don a Dodgers uniform, it is shortstop Pee Wee Reese that is the franchise’s all-time leader in the wins above replacement statistic. The Little Colonel played all 16 seasons of his MLB career for the Dodgers and was Robinson’s infield partner for the latter’s entire career.

Reese’s career WAR of 66.4, narrowly edges out the contributions made to the Dodgers by outfielder Duke Snider (65.8), pitcher Dizzy Vance (61.6), and second baseman Robinson (61.5).

Since being founded in 1884 as the Brooklyn Athletics, the team has variously been branded as the Grays, Grooms, Bridegrooms, Superbas, and Robins, before finally settling on Dodgers, which is short for “Trolley Dodgers”.

Only two players on the Dodgers all-time roster by WAR played exclusively for the team’s Los Angeles incarnation — third baseman Ron Cey (47.5), and outfielder Willie Davis (54.4).
