The first official overseas game for an NBA team dates all the way back to a 1978 meeting between the Washington Bullets and Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. Over the intervening decades, basketball has exploded in popularity around the world, and in the past few years the NBA Global Games has promoted preseason games in Brazil, China, the Philippines, and Spain.
This year saw the Oklahoma City Thunder fly across the Atlantic to face FC Barcelona Lassa on the latter’s home court, and you can be sure artists Chris Martínez & Albert Carbó were on hand to enjoy the action. The talented Spanish duo comprise Brain Bucket creative studio which produces striking toon art of the NBA’s top stars — past and present.
A sampling of Brain Bucket’s work can be enjoyed below, starting with LeBron James, the MVP from last year’s NBA Finals, and followed by Steph Curry, the MVP of the regular season.
