Ty Cobb, along with Babe Ruth and Willie Mays, is universally regarded as one of the best baseball players to ever take the field. The first player to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cobb set 90 Major League Baseball records over the course of his career.
DETROIT TIGERS ALL-TIME ROSTER
In his 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Cobb amassed 144.7 wins above replacement — far and way the highest total of the franchise’s all-time roster by WAR. The team’s other biggest contributions came from outfielder Al Kaline (92.5) and second baseman Charlie Gehringer (80.6).
Until the Tigers traded Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros last season, they were one of the only MLB teams with two active players making the team — a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that the franchise has been in operation since 1901.
