Whether it’s staying in the game after being hit by a pitch in the face, or stretching flat out to snag a ball at the warning track, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has shown himself to be fearless on the baseball field.
However, off the field, the Cuban import has a fear in common with more than half of Americans — ophidiophobia. But unlike more than half of Americans, he decided this week to try wearing a snake around his neck while visiting the Cincinnati Zoo.
“Umpire, there's a snake in my glove!”
Prior to 1954, many big leaguers left their glove on the field between innings. On more than one occasion, a squeamish player's opponent would slip a rubber snake in their unattended glove and then sit back to watch the fun.
