Hunter Pence signs started innocently enough as a quirky gag by a couple of Mets fans at Citi Field when the San Francisco Giants were in town. Bolstered by social media, the meme gained momentum and followed the Giants outfielder to Milwaukee’s Miller Park, Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium, and then home to Frisco.
Even Pete Rose weighed in with a sign (albeit rather tamely), as did Pence himself, who seemed to relish the oddball observations.

As you can see from the signage, the creativity of the signs appears to be waning rather than waxing. The Giants are on the road again starting Tuesday in Chicago, so we’ll see if denizens of Wrigley Field can write some new life into the fad…
