In retrospect, one could make the argument that Chino Hills guard LaMelo Ball was struggling offensively when he scored 51 points over the first three quarters versus Los Osos on Tuesday. That’s because the Huskies sophomore poured in 41 in the fourth quarter.
LaMelo dedicated his 92-point game to Lexi Anderson, a Chino Hills classmate who recently went into cardiac arrest and is in urgent need of a heart donor and financial assistance.

HALFCOURT SHOT
LaMelo’s offensive outburst marks the second time this season the 5-foot-10 phenom has made the national news. Late last year, in a game at the Rancho Mirage MaxPreps Holiday Invitational, LaMelo calmly hit a halfcourt shot that caught the attention of two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry.
“That right there was pretty unbelievable. For him to call his shot like Babe Ruth and knock it down and act like nothing happened. So shoutout to him.”
BAND OF BALL BROTHERS
LaMelo is the youngest of three uber-talented Ball brothers.
The eldest, Lonzo, stars as a freshman for the nationally-ranked UCLA Bruins, while middle-brother LiAngelgo and LaMelo plan to follow in his footsteps when they graduate from Chino Hills.
Last year, the Ball trio led the Huskies to California’s Open Division state title with a 70-50 victory over De La Salle (Concord). Along the way, they amassed a highlight reel that looks more like something from the NBA than high school. One thing is for certain: UCLA hoops fans are going to have lots to look forward to over the next several seasons…
