While most NFLers are taking it easy during the offseason, Steeler linebacker James Harrison opted to play beach volleyball in the Arizona desert with a ten-pound medicine ball. Joining him in the madness were teammates Ryan Shazier, Vince Williams and Robert Golden.

The sport, which Harrison refers to as Danney-ball (after Scottsdale trainer Ian Danney), is a variant on Hooverball. Last year, Tim Tebow also took to the hot sand to heave the heavy ball over the net.

HOOVERBALL

Hooverball was invented by none other than Herbert Hoover’s personal doc to keep the President in shape whilst he occupied the White House. The Hoover Presidential Library Association in West Branch, Iowa plays host to the Hooverball National Championship each year.

The sport has also become popular in recent years with the cross-fit community for its intense whole-body workout.
